Port your number to Jio

Keep the number everyone already has for you, and move it across. Here is how the process actually works.

How porting works

Mobile Number Portability is a regulated process run between the two operators. This is the shape of it.

  1. You request a porting code

Send an SMS in the format PORT <your number> to 1900 from the number you want to move. You receive a Unique Porting Code (UPC) by SMS, which has a limited validity.

  2. You apply to the new operator

The UPC, along with identity and address verification, goes in with your porting request. We help you get this part right, because most rejections happen here.

  3. The operators verify

Your current operator checks for unpaid dues, contractual conditions and the minimum period your number has been active with them.

  4. The number switches over

If approved, your number moves to the new network at a scheduled time and your old SIM stops working. Timelines are set by regulation and by the operators.

An honest note: we cannot guarantee that a port will be approved, or how long it will take. Those decisions belong to the operators. What we can do is make sure your application is complete and correct, and chase it if it stalls.

Common reasons a port is rejected

  • Outstanding dues on a postpaid account
  • The porting code expired before the request was processed
  • Details on the application do not match the operator's records
  • The number has not been active long enough with the current operator
  • An earlier porting request for the same number is still open

Worth checking first

Clear any pending bill with your current operator and make sure your name and address with them match the documents you will submit. That one check prevents most of the delays we see.

Request porting assistance

Send us the number and your current network. We will tell you what to do next and stay with it until the port completes or is rejected with a reason.

Do not share your porting code (UPC) on this form. We will ask for it at the right stage.

Only if it is different from the number above.

Porting questions

Will my number stop working during porting?
Your existing SIM keeps working until the switch-over happens. There is usually a short interruption at the moment the number moves across, generally scheduled outside peak hours.
Can I port a postpaid number to prepaid?
Porting and changing your billing type are two separate things. Both are possible, but the sequence matters. Tell us what you have now and what you want, and we will explain the order to do it in.
How long does porting take?
It is governed by regulation and by the operators involved, and it varies with your case. We will not quote you a fixed time, because it is not ours to promise.
Do I need to visit in person?
Verification is required, and how it is done depends on the operator's current process. We will tell you before you make a trip.

Still deciding?

Send us your current network and what you pay now. We will tell you plainly whether porting is worth it for you.
